Meeting Minutes for Saturday, April 14, 2007
The meeting was held at White's Unfinished Furniture & Hardwood at 2 West Kennewick Ave., Kennewick, WA.
Special thanks to Jody & Sherry White for their most gracious use of the shop in their retail facility. Their shop is spacious, well lit, and was an excellent place for this meeting/demonstration.
President Dave Pellicer called the meeting to order at 1:00pm
Treasurer's Report: Approximately $1,545 in the checking account and $85 in petty cash.
Announcements:
Reminder that the West Coast Round-Up Woodturning Symposium 2007 (Friday September 7, 2007 and Saturday September 8, 2007) will be held at the Richmond Hotel and Convention Center in Richmond, British Columbia. Brochures were available at the meeting.
Reminder about annual AAW Symposium in Portland, Or (June 29-July1, 2007). Hotel reservations should be made as soon as possible. AAW Handouts/Brochures were available at the meeting. Volunteers were encouraged to help with various aspects of the symposium (access the AAW website for particulars).
Greenwood sealer is still available (contact Ted Walters) and the barrel pump has been repaired.
Dave Biancosino offered some explanation details regarding the club's website.
President Pellicer issued a call for future demo/demonstrator suggestions. Suggested that a small "team/ working group" form a brainstorming session for potential suggestions.
Show and Tell:
John Barany, Louis Toweill, John Tucker, and Ron Gerton displayed the following items for "show and tell".
John Barany Air Brush Demo:
John began his demo with an in-depth explanation of the equipment and paint supplies that he uses. He demonstrated the different airbrush adjustments and their pattern effects on paper. Also included was the use of "Frisket" both film and liquid and "Sign Strip". John also had a hand-out, "Air Brushing Supplies and Sources" which was a very detailed listing of specific equipment, supplies by brand name and sources that he uses in his work. John also included a most gracious offer, "Free One-on one teaching instructions of the basics" at his studio in Yakima, WA. Contact information was included in the hand-out. Below are a couple of pictures during his demonstration and of some of the pieces he brought with him. John uses a variety of techniques in his work, including dental drill piercing and airbrushing:
