Mid Columbia Woodturners
August 12, 2006
Meeting Minutes
Meeting called to order by President Denise Brooks
Announcements:
There is a turner looking to buy a lathe and tools. If anyone has these things please contact Denise.
Plan now for the Woodturners national symposium to be held in Portland Oregon in 2007. This is a great opportunity for us to show our support by volunteering to help in any capacity needed. Some of the areas to consider are: assist with set up, working with the kids, greeters, helping out with the demos, helping with the instant gallery.
Linda Sue Irvine has drawn up a Policies and Procedures document. All are encouraged to look at it. Your input is important as this will guide our club in the coming year.
Jerry Johnson has forms for demonstrators. It’s a great guide to have if you are interested in getting someone to demo at our club. Questions to ask that are important for both the demonstrator and the club.
September meeting will be a slide show presented by Jerry Johnson on how to bring out the beauty of wood.
October meeting will be Jim Christianson from Idaho and will be held at Jeff and Linda’s shop.
November meeting will be our group project. We will be making faceplates. Any question about the project can be directed to Ernie Kuhn.
December meeting will be our Christmas social. We will see if Ron Gurton can accommodate us at his gallery again this year.
January meeting will be a demo by Ed Glen
Phil Havens told us about a maple in basin city that is available to us. There is equipment available and the tree promises to yield a lot of beautiful wood. A pad was passed around for people to sign up if they are interested in participating with the harvest.
Our president Denise Brooks will be moving to Ohio and Dave Pellicer will take over her duties. Denise will be missed. She has been instrumental in helping our club to become an interesting fun club to be in. We all wish her well!
John Nichols presented turnings he had acquired over the years and talk about shape and form and more importantly form and function.
Meeting was adjourned
Special thanks to John and Ruth Nichols for hosting the barbeque. The setting was lovely and the food was great.
