Mid-Columbia Chapter AAW Board Meeting
March 29, 2006 6:00 PM
Pasco Red Lion Lounge

Attendees: LindaSue, Denise Brooks, Jerry Johnson, Jamie Holladay, Robert and LindaSue Cutler, Ernest Kuhn, David Biancosino, Dave Pellicer.

Call to Order
President's Comments (Denise)
- Accept the previous board meeting notes:
o Motioned by Jerry, seconded by LindaSue, passed unanimously
Review of December Board meeting minutes (Jamie)
Secretary's Report (Jamie)- Secretaries report- LindaSue. accepted unam.

Treasurer's Report (Jerry)
- We are in good shape
- Jerry would like to drop people from the email list who have not paid their dues.
- Denise would like to charge them to attend the meetings, i.e. guest demonstrators they should pay more.
- Motion- Policy change: drop those who have not paid their dues made by Jerry, 2nd by Bob. – unanimous pass
- Motion- (Denise) Policy change- if non-members attend an event that members pay then non-members pay a higher price. 2nd by LindaSue

- Suggestion- make it policy that

Old Business
1. Guest Demonstrators and associated classes (confirm dates, costs, and meeting/class locations)
-  July 4  J. F. Escoulen   (Linda Sue)
o Demo club would subsidize this cost ($500 club pay $200) motion by Jerry 2nd by LindaSue- unanimous
- Motion members (Denise, 2nd by Dave) $20 members, non-members $30
- Held at Tom Thorson, Jeff Phillips
o $500/day classes 5th and 6th. Leaving o­n the 7th
-  July 8  Stuart Batty      (Ron Gerton/ Don Gangl) Jerry brief for Ron.
o $600/day- July 8th demo, 3 sets of 2 day turning sessions.
- Motion- club underwrite demo- club 200, non-30 ea, members 20classes TBD.
- Motion by Denise 2nd by LindaSue. Passed unanimous.
-  Sept 9  Jim Christiansen  (Jerry Johnson)
o Motion (Denise) contact him for Sept 9th, if fails Oct 14th. 2nd (LindaSue) pass unanimous

2. Future Programs
 - April Jamie and Jeff will demonstrate, meeting at Jeff Phillips shop. Denise needs to contact John Tucker and arrange the switch from
 - May Jerry Johnson demonstrator, John Tucker's shop
 - June NO meeting- motion by Denise 2nd Jamie, pass unanimous
 - July 2 meetings Stuart and Escoulen as above.
 - August Picnic John Nichols (club will pay for meat – John will demonstrate)
  - John purchase meat
  - committee to organize barbeque, pot luck salads/desserts, activities)
  - Motion (Jamie) 2nd Denise- Volunteers for the committee.
 - September open (possible location Cutler's) depends o­n Chrisiansen,
 - October Panel discussion based o­n interest survey done previously. Dave will plan.
 - November elections and demonstrator- tabled for now.
 - December Christmas Party (ask Ron Gerton and form committee)

3. Program Ideas (shop hop, member demonstrators, collaborative projects, other)
Mentoring program for wood turners- o­ne-on-one mentoring. Focus o­n techniques of finishes, sanding, cutting not forms etc. Setup time before/after meeting, or setup times. Worst piece show and tell.- how do you recover from too many design opportunities.
Panel session o­n design opportunity recovery.
Open house problem resolution.
October-
Motion: Denise, 2nd LindaSue- Jerry Johnson to form an expert panel and present idea to club. Target to delivery May meeting. Passed unanimously

4. Webpage (Dave "web master" Biancosino)- http://mcwoodturners.org/
Web page- Annual fee of 12.95 for the domain name and $69/yr for site total - $83/yr
- will contain calendars, photos, FAQ, firewalled section for members o­nly which will contain email list and site messaging. Username will be 1st initial plus last name. password TBA
Motion by Jamie 2nd by Linda sue- webmaster gets free membership and attendance to demonstrations (but not classes). Passed unanimously

5. Permanent meeting location options (Ernie Kuhn)
Still looking for a perm. Site.- schools are out (too expensive), will look into other places. Proposed that we may be able to meet at LindaSue’s place. She has a large barn that she is using as a shop. Ernie will investigate.
- AAW insurance accords- Jamie will search files for a copy.
- Portfolio of types of demonstrators. Jerry will gather and provide to Ernie and Dave.
- Tri-City Herald- Ernie will take portfolio to TCH and try to get a story in the Desert Living Section o­n the club.
- Wants a photograph of the club members
- Will include a brief write up of some of the individual members and their works, the members will have a chance to review anything that is written before it goes out.

6. Community Outreach - Jubilee School (Don Gangl) Don was not present so tabled.

7. National Symposia  Louisville, Ky and Portland, Or
- Denise to discuss at next meeting.

New Business
1. Quality indicators  progressive meeting (Jerry Johnson)

2. Lathe Survey (Jerry Johnson)
- see attached.
3. Need for membership chair and historian
Tabled.
4. Other

Round the Table
Jamie- reported that he most likely will not be able to attend meetings from May until Oct. He asked to step down. The board asked him to stay o­n and do it when he is present. LindaSue Irving and LindaSue Cutler will act as secretary when he is not present.
