Rowley. The exhibition chronicles the explosion in woodturning over the last 20 years.Congrats to Ron for having been selected to contribute.

Linda Sue reported that Jean- Francois Escoulen might be available June 27th.We aren’t sure yet of his fee. A show of hands indicated the majority of the attendees at this meeting were in favor of having him demonstrate.

John Nichols will host a BBQ potluck. All are invited to bring family and join the fun. He will also do a demonstration for us. Note that the date has changed from July to August 12th so that we may accommodate our out of town demonstrators.

A time for a board meeting has not been set yet but Denise said anyone interested in attending is welcome.

National AAW brochures were passed out in case anyone wanted to join. Some of the benefits of joining are a subscription to their high quality magazine, news on educational grants, resource directory of AAW members, local chapters, special publications and much more.

John Clark brought manzanita burls for those who ordered them and is planning on another trip for more. If your interested in purchasing call John.

If you still haven’t paid your annual dues yet you may pay them to Jerry Johnson at the next meeting or mail it to him.

We are still exploring possibilities for a permanent meeting place.Ernie consulted with the Kiwanis Club but it was determined it would be too expensive. He also spoke with Rec Services who wanted $125.00 per day.Any ideas would be appreciated.

John Nichols discussed vacuum plate adapters. His advice was to stay away from vacuum cleaner vacuum plates, as they are very unsafe. Not only could you lose your piece, you could be seriously injured.

The next meeting will be held at Jeff Phillips with Jeff Phillips or Jamie Holladay (perhaps both) demonstrating pen turning.

Show and Tell:
Jerry Johnson showed a vase made of grape.

John Nichols showed Russian olive vase that had been finished with a 3/8” brush drill that brushed out the softer wood leaving the harder wood intact. This creates a nice texturing effect. The piece was then finished with lacquer.

Gordon Lienau showed his cottonwood vase, walnut and blood wood peppermill and a box elder bowl he made from Don Gangl’s scrap pile. Very pretty piece. (I must remember to visit Don’s scrap pile!)

Demonstration:
Robert Cutler demonstrated how to put on a lacquer finish and bring up to a high gloss. He also showed how Styrofoam could be dissolved and used to saturate rotten wood.
