Demo Natural Edge Bowl
- Why natural edge- people love them, they are very artistic, and faster to make (don’t need to dry the wood)
- To prevent checks- turn thin and have a consistent thickness
- Try to keep the bark, but if it comes off that's okay too.
- Best to harvest the wood when sap NOT flowing (winter time). There is a better chance of keeping the bark
Step 1. Drill hole in center for your drive (diameter to fit your drive). Make sure it is balanced. Also want the highest parts to be equal.
Step 2. Turn outer part,
Step 3. Turn the inside
Step 4. Place in paper bag to dry. Power sand later.
Step 5. Reverse chuck it and power sand. Can use a vacuum chuck or build a faceplate chuck (use closed cell plastic gasket- neoprene works well). Then can bring up tail stock to hold in place.
Next meeting February 11th, John Tucker's shop.
